Yes, at first that confused me too. These beings that sound God like are personification of good quailitys. Thge green Tara, as I understand, is the personification of protection. As for conflicting views, this comes from different sutras in different sects, they way a sect decides the importance of something, and simply what seems best to a certain practictioner. So, it's best to choose the view point that seems best to you and continue on, you'll make good decisions so long as your informed. I hope that helps a bit, Metta.
